Your NAUTICA POOL  has been designed  to be the finest pool possible and the easiest to maintain. Sparkling, clear water in a clean pool is always our objective. The information below is a helpful guide for swimming pool maintenance.

WEEKLY MAINTENANCE
1. Test for chlorine, pH and alkalinity. Add chemicals as necessary.
2. On your salt system, adjust chlorine output if needed.
3. Net out any leaves and debris.
4. Brush swimming pool walls and steps.
5. Clean skimmer and pump baskets
6. Make sure your vacuum is working properly or
7. Inspect infloor cleaning heads for proper operation (see below).
8. Check pool equipment for leaks.

QUARTERLY MAINTENANCE
1. Clean cartridge filter.
2. Lubricate pump and filter O-rings.
3. Have a pool retailer test your pool water for stabilizer, calcium hardness, and salt.
4. Inspect your salt cell for calcium build-up.

Weekly Pool Service
If you are considering an independent pool service company for weekly service or maintenance, we recommend Steve Ward of Ward's Pool Service (480) 213-0481. We are not affiliated with with Ward's Pool Service, however they have fair prices, do good work, and are dependable.

Swimming Pool Water Level
For best operation, keep the water level in the center of the skimmer opening or halfway up on the waterline tile. Low water level may cause the filter pump to loose prime resulting in pump damage, high water level reduces or eliminates the skimmer effectiveness. To adjust simply adjust the float valve up or down.

             Hayward Pump
The filter pump and motor pull water from the main drain and skimmer then pushes the water through the filter, the heater, and the chlorinator then back to the pool. If allowed to run dry, the pump and adjacent piping may be damaged. The pump basket collects leaves, debris, etc. and prevents them from entering the pump and filter. Clean the pump basket weekly, or after a monsoon. Turn off motor before removing basket, then turn the pump on and make sure it primes.

Time Clock
The time clock turns the pump motor on and off at your preferable pre-determined hours. For best results the time clock should run the pump 1 hour for every 10 degrees of ambient temperature. We recommend you split the run time so at least 1 hour of pump operation circulates the pool water during the hottest time of day.

Aqua-Rite Chlorine Generator (Saltwater Pool)

Saltwater pools are equipped with a chlorine generator that converts the salt into chlorine that instantly starts to destroy bacteria, viruses, and algae, then reverts back to dissolved salt. This cycle continues. The dissolved salts are converted to chlorine only when the filter pump is running. Click on the link below for the owner's manual for maintenance and cleaning

Magna Sweep Infloor Cleaning System
For best performance your infloor heads need to be adjusted so the nozzle water flow shoots in the same direction on every head in the zone. This creates a sweeping motion that cleans better and reduces the likelihood of heavy debris building up in corners. You can do this yourself by pausing the low profile water valve by lifting up on the Quikstop pause control. Next push down on each active head and they will advance in a clockwise direction until you get all the heads in the zone shooting in the same direction. Repeat this process on all zones.

Navigator Pool Vacuum
The pool vacuum uses water suction to remove dirt and debris from your pools floor.and walls. For proper operation you will need to adjust the valve by opening the cleaner/vacuum suction and reducing the opening of the skimmer/main drain suction. If you remove the vacuum from the pool make sure the hose sections are laid straight. A coiled hose will create a memory and will not vacuum properly.  It is not uncommon for a vacuum head to get plugged with objects that don't readily pass through such as rocks, toys, plastic bags and leaves. A dirty filter will restrict suction and the Navigator will not work properly.

Deck (DEK) Chlorinator

If your pool is equipped with a Quik DekClor deck chlorinator you may add 3-inch chlorine tablets in the canister and adjust the valve at the equipment to regulate the flow of water to the chlorinator. Adjust the flow to overflow into the 1 inch stand pipe. Add enough 3" tabs to last a week. During the summer this may be 5 tabs or more. Be sure to have the filter pump running when you remove the lid to access the DEK Chlorinator. Gaseous chlorine may form so when the lid is removed you may be in danger of inhaling uncomfortable levels of chlorine.

Cartridge Filter

Your pool filter is designed to mechanically clean your pool water by trapping tiny particles inside. A dirty filter reduces circulation and cleaning and requires more chlorine. A high-capacity cartridge filter should be cleaned quarterly or more frequently if pump and cleaning system aren't working properly due to an excessive amount of dirt and debris entering your pool. Be sure to re-assemble correctly!

About Cartridge Filters

Cartridge Cleaning Instructions
Clean the cartridge when filter canister pressure reaches 8 PSI above the initial system or new cartridge starting pressure, or within 30 days of startup of new plaster or pebble surface. This said, we recommend you clean your cartridge filter at least once every 4 months. If taken care of properly the cartridges should last about 5 years.

See Unicel Cartridge Website link.
(Click on image below to go to Unicel website)

1. Remove the cartridge from the filter housing following the manufacturer's instructions.
2. Use a garden hose with a straight flow nozzle to wash down the filter element. Work from the top down, holding the nozzle at a 45 degree angle, and wash all the pleats with emphasis between pleats.
3. Rinse until all dirt and debris is gone.
4. To remove suntan lotions, and other oils from the cartridge filter, soak the element for at least one hour in (a) a commercial filter cleaner; or
(b) one cup trisodium phosphate (TSP) to five gallons water; or (c) one cup dishwasher detergent to five gallons of water.
5. Rinse the cartridge again to remove oils and cleaning solution.

Important note: If the pressure gauge reading does not return to the original "clean" psi reading after the cartridges have been cleaned it may be necessary to acid wash the filter elements to remove buildup that is reducing water flow. Read below before proceeding to acid wash filter elements.

ACID WASHING FILTER ELEMENTS
1. If the filter has a coating of algae, calcium, or other minerals, soak the cartridge in a solution of 1 part muriatic acid to 4 parts water until all bubbling stops.
2. Rinse the cartridge clean and reassemble housing.
WARNING: Failure to remove all oils and cleaning solution before acid soaking will result in a permanent restriction of water flow and cause premature cartridge failure.

Important Note about Acid Washing Your Cartridge Filter Element.  Acid washing is perhaps the biggest single factor leading to premature cartridge failure. As a rule of thumb, acid wash only when required, if at all, and never without thoroughly cleaning the element with a cartridge degreaser first. Here is a simple test to determine if acid washing is required. After thoroughly cleaning the cartridge with a degreasing agent, flush the cartridge with a garden hose to remove all traces of soap, etc. Now apply several drops of acid directly to a small area of the filter media. If bubbling occurs, this indicates a build up of calcium or minerals, and you should proceed with a mild acid soak. If no bubbling is observed, your cartridge most likely does not require acid washing.
